About Us
PACES Day Care Society has a rich history providing childcare to the Terrace BC community.
The P.A.C.E.S Educational program began as what was formerly known as “the Young Mom’s Program” in 1990. It became “PACES” (Parent’s and Children’s Education Society) in 1993, when it was incorporated as a non-profit society. P.A.C.E.S. was a young parent program developed to support young parents finishing their high school education. PACES evolved to a year-round program that provides care to all community members. In January 2018, PACES opened a second location, PACES Daycare #2, at Coast Mountain College.
PACES Daycare Society is headed by a board of directors, which appoints an Executive Director and managers to run the daycare. The board of directors and the Executive Director work collaboratively together to hire the Early Childhood Educators who work in the centre.
Mission Statement
PACES Day Care Society provides relationship based Early Childhood care and learning for children 0-12.
Vision Statement
At PACES, we strive towards a well-supported day care with programming that is continually evolving and accessible to all children in Terrace. We work towards a relationship with policy makers who understand the value of Early Childhood Educators that deserve better pay and access to quality training as well as program and capital funding.
Philosophy
PACES Day Care is committed to providing high quality care for children age 0-12. The day care centre is a place where children can feel a sense of respect, security, approval, and affection. Children will receive individual attention from professional educators who recognize each child’s unique emotional and social needs. Educators guide children in kind, respectful ways which promote autonomy, self-esteem, self-control, and positive social behaviour.
PACES believes that a quality environment for children also promotes mutual respect and support for families. A daycare enhances and does not replace the importance of families. As much as possible, care for children will respect and support the culture and religion of the child’s family. PACES respects, reflects, and promotes the inclusion of all people. We are enriched by diversity amongst our community, our staff and our children.
PACES has an open-door policy regarding visiting and encourages parents and families to spend time with their children in the daycare. We invite families to read our parent boards, newsletters, and weekly planning and snack schedules and to provide us with any feedback they may have.
Board of Directors
The PACES Board of Directors are volunteer members from the community, parents, or grandparents of children at PACES. Preferably board members would commit to a two-year term. Without the board members PACES could not remain a non profit society. Parents are welcome to attend board meetings even if they aren’t board members. This gives them the opportunity to vote and make suggestions towards PACES Day Care.
Confidentiality Policy
Confidentiality at PACES Day Care refers to the information that must not be disclosed or shared with others. Information that may be confidential includes: information about children who are or were enrolled in the program (this excludes the legal responsibility staff have regarding the reporting of alleged abuse), information about the families of children who are or were enrolled in the program and personal information about staff members. PACES Daycare staff are ethically required to keep information about children, families, and staff confidential.
PACES Day Care respects and upholds an individual’s right to privacy and protection of his/her personal information. All personal information will be in a secure place accessible to authorized personnel only. Personal information includes children’s files, ACCB information, and any developmental information about children.
